Rather impressively, Apple Inc. has completely and officially phased out some of its most important products like iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Watches among others. The company's policy is interpreted as a constant and deliberate one to eventually take its clients to the latest technologies. Aside from the already established connections, Apple gradually gave up the control of the older devices with poor performance which otherwise might have been a barrier to the new technology adoption since customers would be less willing to upgrade.
One of the remarkable products that have been discontinued is certainly the splitting of the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models. These Pro versions were in line with the annual rotation of the company and were ultimately toppled after being crowned as the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The entry-level iPhone 16 model is still sold at a lower price by Apple, thus it is the most popular among the price-sensitive part of the market.
The iPad Pro with M4 processor is also no longer sold. The new M5 processor of iPad Pro has been gradually introduced by Apple leading to the discontinuation of its predecessor model. Consumers get to experience the M5-powered device with its enhanced capabilities and specifications.
The Vision Pro headset from Apple underwent a similar process. The old M2 version has been absent from the market for some time now, while the Vision Pro-M5 has taken its place, which is a clear signal of Apple’s always high-performance hardware policy.
With regard to the audio products category, AirPods Pro 2 had the same fate as the AirPods Pro 3, which are the latest ones entering the market. The new version is said to have the best sound quality and longer battery life in addition to being a more solid and dependable connection.
When it comes to wearables, Apple Watch Ultra 2 isn't available anymore. The Ultra 2 got no more than a minor update last year and was thus completely substituted by the Apple Watch Ultra 3, which is now the most premium smartwatch from Apple.
Market experts opine that Apple’s 2025 discontinuations are a reflection of a cycle that is predictable, phasing out the older devices to highlight the new ones, plus the latter giving a slight push to the existing users to upgrade.
